"Patriotism Set to Blossom This Month"
by Paul Beran, Vet*Net Founder

As the United States approaches its 250th anniversary, May 2026 emerges as a powerful and symbolic opening chapter in a year-long national celebration. What makes this moment extraordinary is not just the milestone itself, but the spirit behind it: a shared opportunity for Americans—across regions, backgrounds, and beliefs—to reflect on our past, celebrate our present, and recommit to a united future. The semiquincentennial—250 years since July 4, 1776—is not a single day, but a year-long nationwide movement led by the congressionally authorized America250 -- of which America's Vet*Net is a proud Supporting Partner, and supported by complementary efforts such as Freedom 250 of the White House. Together, these initiatives are creating a tapestry of events across the country, anchored by Washington DC, but reaching out to every state and community. ________________________________________ A Nation Reflects—and Rededicates The White House described In this historic anniversary in this manner: “A single sheet of parchment… began the greatest political journey.” America250 emphasizes this moment is: “An opportunity to reflect… and look ahead.” That spirit—reflection, gratitude, and forward momentum—defines the events of May 2026. The month serves as a bridge between remembrance and celebration, culminating in Memorial Day and setting the stage for the larger summer festivities. ________________________________________ 🗓️ May 2026: Calendar of Events (Washington DC & Nearby) Below is a curated calendar of free and public-facing events, with emphasis on the Washington DC region—America’s symbolic "front porch." ________________________________________ Early May (May 1–10): Community & Cultural Awakening • Around the World Embassy Tour (May 2) Cultural diplomacy at its finest—dozens of embassies open their doors with performances, exhibits, and cuisine. • Revolutionary War Weekend at the Mount Vernon Estate. Living history reenactments connect visitors directly to the founding era. • Flower Mart at Washington National Cathedral A vibrant celebration of American gardens, craftsmanship, and community. • Adams Morgan PorchFest Free live music fills neighborhoods—a reminder that American culture is as diverse as it is unified. ________________________________________ Mid-May (May 11–20): Arts, Heritage & National Reflection • “Photographic Memory: Fifty Years of Photography” (opens May 15) at the National Portrait Gallery, highlighting American identity through art. • Tephra ICA Fine Arts Festival (May 16–17, Reston, VA) “Evolving Craft at 250” celebrates American creativity across generations. • Rededicate 250 – National Mall (May 17) A major kickoff event: prayer, reflection, and unity at the heart of the nation -- Washington Mall. A moment not of division, but of recommitment—Americans standing together to honor shared ideals. ________________________________________ Late May (May 21–31): Memorial Spirit & National Unity • Community Heritage Events (May 21 and beyond) Book discussions, civic dialogues, and local gatherings reinforce the living nature of American democracy. • Rolling to Remember (May 24) A powerful motorcycle ride honoring veterans and POW/MIA service members. • National Memorial Day Parade (May 25) The largest in the country, culminating at Arlington National Cemetery. • Memorial Day National Observance (May 25) A solemn ceremony recognizing sacrifice and service. ________________________________________ Nationwide Events Beyond DC (May Highlights) While Washington anchors the celebration, the spirit of America250 extends nationwide: • DAR (Daughters of the American Revolution) programs across all states • Traveling historical exhibits and educational initiatives • Local heritage festivals and community storytelling events These efforts ensure that every American—not just those in the capital—can participate. ________________________________________ 🎯 A Unifying Theme Despite differences in planning bodies, both America250 and Freedom 250 share a common purpose: • Honor history • Celebrate freedom • Inspire unity Even amid differing approaches, the collective result is a once-in-a-generation national experience. ________________________________________ 🌟 Looking Ahead: Summer & Beyond (2026 Highlights) June–July: The National Crescendo • National STEM Festival (June 22–27) – youth innovation showcase • Great American State Fair (June 25–July 10, National Mall) All 50 states represented in one grand celebration. • July 4, 2026 – The Semiquincentennial ~ National Independence Day Parade ~ “Salute to America 250” fireworks ~ International naval review ________________________________________ Late Summer & Fall • Freedom 250 Grand Prix (Aug 21–23, DC) A high-profile international racing event • Scrollathon at Kennedy Center (May–Sept) A collaborative national art installation • Leadership & civic programs at Mount Vernon (Fall) Focused on the next generation of American leadership ________________________________________ Nationwide Travel Opportunities • Independence National Historical Park • Freedom Trail • Gettysburg Battlefield These historic destinations will host expanded programming throughout 2026. ________________________________________ Closing Reflection May 2026 is more than a calendar of events—it is a national invitation. An invitation to remember: • the courage of 1776 • the sacrifices of generations • the enduring promise of freedom And most importantly, it is an invitation to come together. In a time when division often dominates headlines, this anniversary offers something rare: a chance to rediscover common ground—not by ignoring differences, but by celebrating shared values. As Americans gather—from embassy tours to Memorial Day ceremonies, from neighborhood concerts to national tributes—they participate in something larger than any single event: 👉 A reaffirmation that the American story is still being written—together. # # # For more information, go to: ~ https://America250.org and ~ https://Freedom250.org

About America250
America250’s mission is to celebrate and commemorate the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, marking America’s semiquincentennial. We aim to inspire our fellow Americans to reflect on our past, strengthen our love of country, and renew our commitment to the ideals of democracy through programs that educate, engage, and unite us as a nation. America250 will foster shared experiences that spark imagination, showcase the rich tapestry of our American stories, inspire service in our communities, honor the enduring strength, and celebrate the resilience of the United States of America.America250 is the national, nonpartisan organization authorized by Congress to lead the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the United States. Through nationwide programs and partnerships, America250 seeks to engage every American in reflecting on the nation’s past, celebrating its present, and shaping its future.
WASHINGTON DC — April 20, 2026 America250, the national nonpartisan organization charged by Congress with leading the commemoration of the 250th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Independence, today announced a partnership with the Veteran Legacy Foundation, creators of “America’s Vet*Net™,” to support nationwide engagement of veterans, military families, and allies throughout the coming year.
This partnership brings together America250’s mission of reflecting on the nation’s past and envisioning its future with the Vet*Net’s growing digital ecosystem dedicated to honoring, remembering, and connecting U.S. military veterans and the communities that support them.
“America’s 250th anniversary is an opportunity to ensure that the voices of those who have defended our freedoms are front and center,” said Jen Condon, Executive Vice President at America250. "Through our partnership with the Veteran Legacy Foundation and America’s Vet*Net, we can broaden participation, amplify veteran stories, and create meaningful pathways for service, remembrance, and civic engagement as the nation celebrates this historic milestone.”
Founded to build a sustainable, privately funded digital network for veterans, the Veteran Legacy Network (VLN) serves as a multimedia hub connecting news, resources, fundraising platforms, podcasts, and community-driven initiatives expressly created for U.S. military veterans and their families. The network encompasses a growing collection of websites — known collectively as America’s Vet*Net™ — designed to provide trusted resources, promote connection, and honor military service across generations.
The Veteran Legacy Network is funded entirely through private donations and is not affiliated with any military branch, or any federal agency, allowing it to operate independently in service of veterans nationwide.
“Veterans have always played a defining role in America’s story — from the Revolutionary War to today,” said Paul Beran, VLN Founder and Executive Chairman. "America’s Vet*Net™ creates a unified national platform where veterans, families, historians, nonprofits, and supporters can connect, remember service, and participate in the commemoration of our nation’s 250th anniversary and the role played by its military in a meaningful and lasting way.”
As part of the collaboration, America’s Vet*Net™ will leverage the Veteran Legacy Network’s expanding ecosystem to support storytelling, remembrance, nonprofit engagement, and nationwide participation throughout the Semiquincentennial period and beyond. These platforms are designed to offer resources, connect donors with verified veteran-serving nonprofit organizations, and to preserve the stories and legacies of those who have worn the uniform.
America250 is leading a nationwide commemoration culminating on July 4, 2026of our nation’s Semiquincentennial, with programs that celebrate the nation’s history, honor the people who have shaped it, and inspire Americans to imagine the country they want to build for the next 250 years. The partnership with the Veteran Legacy Foundation reinforces America250’s commitment to inclusivity, service, and honoring the sacrifices that have safeguarded American democracy.
